This means he engages in spell combat, with attacks and defenses based on words. He can also sense other Fighters and Sacrifices if they are nearby and active. Personality: To most people, Soubi is cold, even rude. He has been known to be a flirt, but usually the intent is either to use someone or to humiliate them. He has a weakness for children, however, and is usually kind and helpful to them, though he'll fight them if necessary. He is both submissive and masochistic to the right person, the person he considers his master. He wants to be ordered around and abused, treated like a possession rather than a person. Background: Soubi never had much of what one might consider a normal childhood. Both his parents were away a great deal, leaving him alone much of the time even when he was quite small. He was a smart kid and he tried hard to please them, hoping in the way of neglected children that this would earn their attention and affection. Maybe it would have, but when he was still young, his parents died, leaving him an orphan. For the next seven years, he was raised at the Seven Moons School for Fighter units. Ritsu, the head of the school, gave Soubi specialized attention, stressing to him that he must be perfect to deserve his Sacrifice, the person for whom he would fight. He was a harsh master who expected perfect obedience and used corporal punishment to enforce his training. Soubi, it seems, was special. Most Fighter units share a name with a specific Sacrifice, but Soubi was a rare unbound Fighter who could be paired with anyone. When he was 17, Ritsu finally chose a partner for him: a younger boy named Seimei Aoyagi, or Beloved. Seimei was only fourteen, but Soubi obeyed him without question, wanting only to be accepted and to finally feel he had someone to belong to. He was the best Fighter Ritsu had ever trained and he and Seimei never lost. When he wasn't fighting, Soubi was a student at an art college, a painter of some skill. He enjoyed painting, the only way he ever expressed his true feelings, but school was merely something to do, not anything really important. The other students, the teachers, they might as well not have existed for all the attention he paid them. Only Seimei mattered. But it wasn't enough. All his obedience, all his skill, and still Seimei died, murdered when Soubi wasn't there. He would have been lost, had he not already had orders from Seimei about what to do. His Sacrifice had willed him to his younger brother, Ritsuka, named Loveless. Ritsuka was only twelve and knew nothing of the world of Fighters and Sacrifices. Soubi found his trust difficult to gain and the fact that others immediately tried to defeat and take him made the situation even worse. Just when he thought he had succeeded, finally found someone who wanted and needed him, Soubi learned that not only had Seimei faked his death, he had replaced him with the Beloved Fighter, Nisei. It was then that Soubi was approached by a strange being who offered him a wish. He wanted someplace, someone, to belong to, but he hadn't expected to wind up somewhere else.
